Award-winning author and philanthropist Isabel Allende, best-selling author and two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter John Carreyrou, and author and activist Glennon Doyle will appear at Dominican University of California in the Spring 2020 Leadership Lecture Series.
The series is presented by Dominican’s Institute for Leadership Studies in partnership with Book Passage.
All lectures are held in Dominican’s Angelico Concert Hall. Doors open one hour prior to the programs. Free parking is available in the Conlan Center parking lot at the intersection of Acacia and Grand Avenues.
Isabel Allende. Monday, February 3, at 7 p.m. A Long Petal of the Sea is a masterful work of historical fiction about hope, exile and belonging. This compelling story, spanning decades and crossing continents, follows two young people as they flee the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War in search of a place to call home. Ms. Allende has received more than 60 awards including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Book Award. Her 23 books translated into 42 languages have sold more than 74 million copies worldwide. Ms. Allende will be in conversation with broadcast journalist Michael Krasney. John Carreyrou. Wednesday, February 5, at 7 p.m. Bad Blood is rigorously reported, fearlessly written and gripping story about Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes, once considered the next Steve Jobs, but then led the biggest corporate fraud since Enron – a tale of ambition and hubris set amid the bold promises of Silicon Valley. John Carreyrou, two-time Pulitzer Prize winner and 20-year Wall Street Journal reporter, received several awards for Bad Blood including the Financial Times & McKinsey Business Book of the Year. Glennon Doyle. Monday, March 16, at 7 p.m. Author of the No. 1 New York Times bestselling memoir Love Warrior and president of Together Rising, Doyle will discuss her newest book, Untamed, which offers an examination of restrictive expectations women are issued from birth and explores the joy and peace we discover when we stop striving to meet the expectations of the world, and start trusting the voice deep within us.
