Philanthropist and businesswoman Melinda Gates, New York Times columnist and political commentator David Brooks, former Barack Obama senior advisor Valerie Jarrett, and Jason Rezaian, former Tehran bureau chief for the Washington Post will appear at Dominican University of California in the Spring 2019 Leadership Lecture Series.
The series is presented by Dominican’s Institute for Leadership Studies in partnership with Book Passage.
All lectures are held in Dominican’s Angelico Concert Hall. Doors open one hour prior to the programs. Free parking is available in the Conlan Center parking lot at the intersection of Acacia and Grand Avenues.
• Jason Rezaian. Monday, January 28, at 7 p.m. Rezaian, who was convicted – but never sentenced – of espionage in a closed-door trial in Iran in 2015, will discuss his book Prisoner in conversation with comic and television host W. Kamau Bell. Rezaian, a Marin County native, is now an opinion writer for the Post and contributor to CNN. Tickets: $45 (includes book).
• Valerie Jarrett. Thursday, April 11, at 7 p.m. Called “The Ultimate Obama insider” by the New York Times, Jarrett talks about her political career in Chicago and her role as the longest serving senior advisor for the 44th President of the United States in her book Finding My Voice. • David Brooks. Thursday, May 2, at 6 p.m. In The Second Mountain, Brooks explores the four commitments that define a life of meaning and purpose. The bestselling author of The Road to Character appears regularly on the PBS NewsHour and Meet the Press. Tickets: $45 (includes book).
• Melinda Gates. Monday, May 6, at 7 p.m. Co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Gates is a global advocate for women and girls. She discusses her heroes and her awakening to the link between women’s empowerment and the health of societies in her book The Moment of Lift. Tickets: $35 (includes book).
