The Del Sol String Quartet returns to Dominican to perform in the Guest Concert Series in Angelico Concert Hall on February 10.
The Sunday concerts, sponsored by Dominican’s Department of Music, Dance, and Performing Arts, start at 3 p.m. in Angelico Concert Hall. Free parking is available in the nearby Conlan Center lot off Grand Avenue in San Rafael.
Founded in 1992, the San Francisco-based Del Sol String Quartet – featuring violinists Benjamin Kreith and Dominican alum Rick Shinozaki ’89, cellist Kathryn Bates, and Charlton Lee on viola – is two-time winner of the top Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. They will be joined on stage by pianist June Choi Oh, of Dominican for the Finzi piece. The performance of the Johnston quartet will be presented with a multimedia installation by Matthew Garcia, also a Dominican faculty member.
At Dominican, the Del Sol String Quartet is scheduled to perform Huang Ruo’s The Flag Project (2009) for string quartet and Tibetan finger cymbals, Lukas Ligeti’s Moving Houses (2003), Erberk Eryilmaz’s Hoppa! (2017), Gerald Finzi’s Eclogue Arr. for Piano Quintet (1922), Niloufar Shiri’s Calling (2016), and Ben Johnston’s Quartet No. 4 “Amazing Grace” (1973) with Multimedia installation by Matthew Garcia
All Guest Concert Series concerts are free to students under the age of 18 including middle school and elementary school children if accompanied and supervised by an adult. In addition, community college students with a valid I.D. and music and art teachers in grades K-12 will be admitted free of charge along with Dominican students, faculty, and staff with a valid I.D.
Single-event tickets, which are only available at the door 30 minutes prior to scheduled performances, are $20 for general admission and $17 for seniors over 60. Season subscription series tickets are $60, $50 for seniors over 60.
